Study finds TV viewing-tracking opt-outs work for most brands but not all
Researchers at Northeastern University tested 12 TVs from 10 manufacturers to see whether opting out of automatic content recognition (ACR) stops viewing data collection. The opt-out worked for most models, including LG, Amazon Fire TV, a Sony Bravia running Google TV, and Vidaa OS sets from Hisense, Toshiba and Supersonic. Samsung and Roku kept sending some data, and Walmart's Vizio TV kept tracking as if the opt-out had not happened.
Oklahoma man charged over threatening mailings to election officials nationwide
Robin Patrick Martin has been charged with conveying false information, hoaxes and mailing threatening communications after suspicious white substances and three-page "DECLARATION OF WAR" letters were sent to election officials from September 2024 onwards. Officials in nearly every state received similar mailings. Investigators tied the case to a burner phone bought at a Walmart in Oklahoma City, and the FBI and Department of Justice had not announced the charges as of the reporting time.
