Google activated Gemini for 150 million K-12 students via Google Classroom in August, and a later off-switch also disabled Google Search for administrators. After backlash, Google said Gemini, Gemini notebook and Search will have their own controls, all off by default. The EFF argues schools, not Google, should decide on generative AI and that clear, persistent admin settings are needed.
New VOLTA infostealer uses commercial AI models to profile and rank stolen victim data
VOLTA, also called VOLTA-AUTODOXER, is a self-deleting Windows infostealer that harvests credentials, cookies, session data and cryptocurrency information. It then uses large language models, reported to include Claude, Gemini and Kimi, to enrich identities and rank victims by monetisation value.
