Microsoft launches on-premises security initiative with baseline hardening for Exchange and SharePoint
Microsoft has launched an on-premises security initiative, starting with server workloads, that combines guidance, migration to Microsoft 365 and product hardening. Its On-Premises Baseline Security Mode will cover Exchange Server, SharePoint Server and Skype for Business Server, with out-of-band Critical and Important updates already in use and automatic update application targeted for Q1 2027. Emergency Mitigation Service is being expanded to apply interim mitigations, with version 2.0 planned for December 2026 and SharePoint coverage for January 2027.
